THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT CUSTOM MAKING RUGS

When to have a rug handcrafted specifically for your needs

Often we find it hard to choose a Handwoven Classic or Modern Persian Carpet to suit our own particular decore. Especially when we have already chosen our Furniture and Curtain Fabrics and need to match a Modern Rug to it. Modern Carpets often may not suit our taste, colour or size and when we exhaust our options we may turn to having the Rug Custom-Made for our needs.

Which method of rug custom-making should you choose?

Hand-Tufted Modern Carpets and Rugs

If we have a very specific colour in mind then the best way to ensure we get the right colour result is by having the carpet Hand-Tufted. This is because the colour you choose is dyed and washed to the required colour before weaving and the carpet is then woven and the colour does not change after completion. Choosing the colour is done by selecting from an array of ARS colours available to view at the Master Rugs Showroom located at 487 Church St Richmond. Master Rugs can make any size, shape and colour using your choice of colours from 800 Viscose options and 1000 Woollen options.

The quality of the fabric, the cotton backing and the density of these carpets also vary but at Master Rugs Melbourne they are handmade to the highest standard. Hand-tufting can take between three to six months plus delivery time depending on the size of the Modern Rug or Carpet.

Hand-Knotted Luxury Modern Art for The Floor

When a carpet is hand knotted it is made to last generations and a great deal of traffic. This technique is better for when you have a specific design or style in mind. This requires architectural graphical design. In the past, this was done on a graph page but these days there is “CAD” computer-aided design. The person commissioning the design will get the same design result however the colours may not be exactly as expected. This is due to the fact that the fabric is first dyed then hand-knotted and finally the pile is shaved and then washed to get a final result when dry. Like pottery, these colors are not certain until full completion of the carpet. In most cases, the colours turn out better than expected and have a variance of about 10-15% from the CAD.

Custom Hand-knotted Carpets can be arranged at Master Rugs. The quality can be selected based on the design and each specific situation. I can provide advice on the best option to suit your specific needs. The lead time depends on the intricacy, quality and size of the handwoven masterpiece and can take a number of weavers anywhere between three months to a year and sometimes more for the larger high-quality works of art.
