Some Facts from Omid Master
What is the Difference Between a Carpet and a Rug?
A Rug is less than three square meters in size, whereas a Carpet is more than three square meters. A Persian Carpet generally refers to one that is handmade using the Persian hand-knotting technique on a handloom. Hand weaving a larger Persian carpet by tying individual colors onto a base can take years to complete.
Where is the Persian Empire?
Almost any country that has the suffix “…stan” at the end was part of the Ancient Persian Empire. People who identify as Persian include those from Iran, Afghanistan, Uzbekistan and many other parts of the former Persian Empire. The word “stan” means “place” in the Persian language Farsi. So for example Pakistan is where the Pak people live.
Omid Master was born in Shiraz, a Persian province known for the Shiraz grape variety. His family immigrated to Australia when he was two years old. He has fond memories of helping his father at their Persian carpet store in Armadale during his teenage years while attending Camberwell Grammar School. Those weekends at the store remain etched in his mind, where he vividly recalls selling numerous rugs from the showroom.
Omid's journey continued as he pursued a Bachelor of Business at Monash University, complemented by an honors thesis that explored his deep interests in the Persian rug and music industries.
With his strong family and cultural connections in the Persian carpet trade, Omid opened his first showroom in 2001 in Far North Queensland, attracting an international clientele and enthusiasts from around the world.
During his time there, Omid was committed to continuous learning, earning a certificate in interior design. His expertise in color coordination and design, combined with his extensive knowledge of the artistic heritage of the Persian Empire, empowered him to create truly distinctive living spaces.
