RUG COLOURS

Choosing the right Coloured Rug for your home is often one of the most daunting parts of the interior design process especially when the furniture has already been selected. What colour matches the room and sofas?

The first thing I tell my customers is you have to love the carpet before anything else. You won’t suddenly like a carpet just because it matches your furniture. This is the reason why most interior designers and decorators recommend starting from the ground up.

In Melbourne, we find a large number of homes needing a Modern Persian Rug to match a Modern Grey Sofa. Should the carpet be grey? The answer is not necessarily but it should rather have the colors of the sky which has grey in it. So when we look at the sky Mother Nature shows us the colours that blend beautifully and naturally together. Grey, white, blue, yellow, red and the colours of the rainbow. These are the colours that we find work well together. Here is an example of a sky-toned carpet Sky Tones

If on the other hand, you have a brown or cream couch and timber floors we would ideally choose a Traditional Persian Carpet or Modern Rug with Earth Tones. Here is an example of an earth-toned carpet Earth Tones

But when we have grey furniture and dominant timber floors we need a carpet with both earth and sky tones to tie these conflicting colours together.

Here is an example of a carpet that will tie both earth and sky tones together and bring the room into a harmonious state. Oxford Sky and Earth Tones

So in conclusion, a Modern and Classic Persian Carpet should bring harmony into the room by having a range of colours that are in the room to help tie them together for the best result.
